The new fame she gained was translated into roles on the big screen, in Shanghai Noon, Charlie's Angels and other films. Following that, she gave an her best performance in Quentin Tarantino Kill Bill Volume 1 as Japanese crime-lord O Ren Ishii. In addition, she played lead characters in failed box office films such as Rise: Blood Hunter. She then started voicing prominent characters from animated films such including Kung Fu Panda and Tinker Bell. Mia Mason, in Cashmere Mafia and other small-screen roles failed to bring her any success. Southland's highly praised police show, Southland and a recurring performance helped Liu to reestablish herself as an established actress. Liu takes great care when selecting her roles in order that she doesn't become the victim of a highly competitive industry.
